Full-Ride, 4-year Scholarships

 

USDA/1890 National Scholars Program will provide full tuition, employment, employee benefits, fees, books, use of a laptop, printer, and software while on scholarship, and room and board each year for 4 years to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at one of the eighteen (18) 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions listed below in any field of study in agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or related disciplines.

  3. 3.       Delaware State University

  4. 4.       Florida A&M University

  5. 5.       Fort Valley State University, Georgia

  6. 6.       Kentucky State University

  7. 7.       Langston University, Oklahoma

  8. 8.       Lincoln University, Missouri

  9. 9.       North Carolina A&T State University

  10. 10.   Prairie View A&M University, Texas

  11. 11.   South Carolina State University

  12. 12.   Southern University, Louisiana

  13. 13.   Tennessee State University

  14. 14.   Tuskegee University, Alabama

  15. 15.   University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff

  16. 16.   University of Maryland - Eastern Shore

  17. 17.   Virginia State University

  18. 18.   West Virginia State University

 

National Scholars are required to study in the following or related disciplines:

  1. 1.       Agriculture

  2. 2.       Agricultural Business/Management

  3. 3.       Agricultural Economics

  4. 4.       Agricultural Engineering/Mechanics

  5. 5.       Agricultural Production Technology

  6. 6.       Agronomy or Crop Science

  7. 7.       Animal Sciences

  8. 8.       Botany

  9. 9.       Farm and Range Management

  10. 10.   Fish, Game, or Wildlife Management

  11. 11.   Food Sciences/Technology

  12. 12.   Forestry and Related Sciences

  13. 13.   Home Economics/Nutrition/Human Development

  14. 14.   Horticulture

  15. 15.   Natural  Resources Management

  16. 16.   Soil Conversation/Soil Science

  17. 17.   Other related disciplines, (e.g. biological sciences, pre-veterinary medicine, computer science)

 

Who may apply:

Applicants must:

  • ·         Be a U. S. Citizen

  •  

  • ·         Be an entering freshman

  •  

  • ·         Have High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate

  •  

  • ·         Have a combined verbal/math/written score of 1,500 or more on the SAT or a composite score of 21 on the ACT

  •  

  • ·         Attend one of the schools listed above

  •  

  • ·         Study one of the disciplines listed above

  •  

  • ·         Demonstrate leadership and community service

  •  

  • ·         Apply for admission to one of the listed institutions

  •  

  • ·         Complete, sign, and submit all applications

  1. ·         Submit an official transcript with the school seal and an authorized official’s signature

 

Application Deadline:

Postmarked no later than February 1, 2009

 

The Award:

Annual tuition, employment, employee benefits, use of a laptop computer, printer, and software while on scholarship; fees, books, room and board for each of the 4 academic years, plus a requirement to work in the Student Educational Employment Program.  Each annual scholarship renewal is contingent upon satisfactory performance and normal progress toward the bachelor’s degree.  Upon completion of the scholar’s academic degree program, there is an obligation of 1 year of service to the U.S. Department of Agriculture for each year of financial support (for which the scholar receives a salary).
