Scholarships
and SAT and ACT Scores
One
of the eligibility requirements for the USDA/1890 National
Scholars Program scholarships is an combined verbal/math/written
score of 1,500 or more on the SAT test or a composite score of 21
or more on the ACT. Although everyone is probably already familiar
with these tests we are mentioning them here because a performance
benchmark is required as noted.
The
SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a standardized test taken by
U.S. high school students applying to colleges. It is divided into
two principal sections, verbal and mathematical.
The
ACT (American College Test) is a standardized achievement
examination for college admissions in the United States produced
by ACT, Inc.
Students
can begin taking these tests prior to their senior year in order
to have an opportunity to re-take the test and improve their
score. Improved scores mean access to a greater pool of financial
resources and to a broader range of colleges and universities.
There
are many resources to help students prepare for the ACT and SAT.
To get you started, we’ve listed some of them here.
