STEPPING OUT ON FAITH: THE DIVINE DZION STORY

When Alvin Parks decided to quit his “safe” 9 to 5 job in management to pursue his dream of building a worldwide company, some family and friends thought he was nuts.  But his wife, Marcia, also a Manager in Corporate America, stood by his decision and took on back room support as well as her demanding day job.

Today, Devine Dzion controls the design, manufacturing, and distribution of the only Black-owned hosiery company in the U.S.  Top quality women’s pantyhose specially designed for women of all colors and shapes is their current product. Based on testimonials of gushing customers, the stocking are really ”all that and a bag of chips.”(www.divinedzion.com).

“We looked at the way our sisters stocking were fitting them, and thought we could offer a great improvement,” says Marcia.  Al, who speaks more to the point, says, “some of our sisters’ stockings were all wrinkles up around their ankles, and they looked like tissue paper.  These women would be looking fine until it got to their legs.  It just wasn’t right.”  Then, there were the “unmentionable” problems with existing pantyhose, a seat that came about mid-thigh, or waistbands that came right up to the bra.

Divine Dzion prides itself on making hosiery that enhances a woman’s legs, adding to her beauty instead of detracting from it.  They fit perfectly, so there’s no need to keep tugging at them to feel comfortable.  They don’t run easily.  And they are guaranteed. “These are not the $.99 no-label specials from the Korean beauty supply shop on the corner in our neighborhoods,” warns Al.  “Think mo’-better  than Hanes and other top quality brands.”

Al and Marcia wanted to pay homage to the Divine Being and his Blessings on their lives.  Their company’s name keeps that thought out front.  It sustains them as they have to make tough decisions about how to move their company forward.  They’ve talked to major national distribution networks who are very interested in their products, but on terms that do not get the product to our communities. Through the Black Hair Project (www.blackhairproject.com), they are reaching places where everybody knows women who appreciate fine goods that honor their beauty congregate – churches, hair salons, and neighborhood boutiques.

Divine Dzion is giving back to the community through its Giving Back to God program.
